About
Matrix Environmental Technologies (METI) offers a comprehensive suite of environmental contracting services designed to address complex remediation challenges effectively. With over three decades of experience, our team provides innovative solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of each project.
Three Decades of Environmental Innovation
Founded in 1991 in Rochester, NY, Matrix Environmental Technologies Inc. has been at the forefront of environmental consulting and site remediation for over 30 years. Entering the industry during a time of rapid technological advancements, we played a key role in developing and implementing innovative groundwater and air treatment solutions, several of which were patented.
Our early work focused on Upstate New York and Vermont, tackling sites impacted by industrial giants such as Love Canal, Kodak Park, Xerox, and IBM Endicott. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, we successfully remediated hundreds of sites, particularly during the era of underground storage tank (UST) replacements and gasoline station upgrades. This fast-paced period often saw properties changing hands multiple times amid ongoing cleanups.

Expanding Expertise & Lasting Impact
In 2021, Matrix celebrated 30 years of success spanning four decades—a rare milestone in the environmental industry. Our core team has worked together on thousands of projects, partnering with consulting firms and technology companies to remediate contaminated sites efficiently and effectively.
Beyond site remediation, we have expanded into vapor mitigation, industrial services, and on-site water treatment, bringing our expertise to a wider range of environmental challenges. Our mission remains the same: to develop and implement innovative, science-driven solutions for cleaner, safer environments.
Data-Driven Analysis
As the industry faced new challenges, Matrix led the way in developing cutting-edge remediation techniques. One major advancement was our solution for oxygenating groundwater plumes more efficiently than traditional air sparging or hydrogen peroxide injection, eliminating the need for vapor collection or hazardous chemicals.
Key projects across New York’s Finger Lakes region, the Mohawk River area, and a major oil storage facility on the Hudson River demonstrated the effectiveness of our method. Our research revealed that MTBE (a gasoline oxygenate once thought to be persistent in the environment) biodegrades under highly aerobic conditions, transforming into TBA.
This groundbreaking discovery led to our technology being selected for a large-scale demonstration of an aerobic MTBE biobarrier at the Naval Air Station in Port Hueneme, CA. Over the past 26 years, Matrix Oxygen Injection Systems have been deployed at hundreds of sites across North America, reinforcing our reputation as a leader in groundwater remediation.
