Oxygen Injection

Oxygen Injection Systems designed to remediate contaminated groundwater and soil effectively. Our technology addresses subsurface contamination, including challenging areas such as smear zones, bedrock fractures, and the overburden/bedrock interface.

Overview and Application

Our proprietary Matrix Oxygen Injection System generates high-purity oxygen gas from compressed air, which is then pulse-injected into groundwater at controlled rates. This process achieves dissolved oxygen saturation levels exceeding 50 mg/L, significantly enhancing aerobic bioremediation. Notably, this method is safe for use beneath occupied buildings and in areas with vapor intrusion concerns. It is also effective in treating migrating groundwater plumes and potable water aquifers.

Since the 1990s, Our Oxygen Injection Technology Has Been Successfully Applied Across Various Scenarios:
  • Petroleum Underground Storage Tank (UST) Sites: Facilitating bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbons.

  • MTBE and TBA Plumes: Effectively treating groundwater contaminated with gasoline additives.

  • Former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) and Wood-Treating Sites: Utilizing deep horizontal and multi-depth vertical injection wells for remediation.

  • Fractured Bedrock Aquifers: Addressing contamination in diverse geological settings, from Western U.S. sandstones to Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern shales and limestones.

  • Biobarriers: Preventing plume migration and protecting downgradient receptors by injecting oxygen into native formations or engineered barriers in low-permeability soils.

  • Surface Water Oxygenation: Managing harmful algal blooms and mitigating iron fouling in groundwater pumping systems.

Our technology is versatile, effectively treating all aerobically biodegradable groundwater contaminants, including many chlorinated solvents. It can be integrated with chemical oxidation, extraction systems, and anaerobic bioremediation strategies.

System Availability

METI maintains a fleet of trailer-mounted systems available for both pilot testing and full-scale remediation projects. We also offer custom-built systems in various configurations, including trailers, skid-mounted buildings, and shipping containers, tailored to fit existing on-site enclosures. Flexible purchase and rent-to-own options are available to meet diverse project requirements.
